1 pint chopped or smashed fig preserves (with syrup)

1 tsp baking powder

2 egg

1 tsp vanilla

1 stick butter

1 cup and 3 tablespoons flour

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp nutmeg

1 tsp cinnamon

1 cup buttermilk


1. In a medium bowl, combine all dry ingredients together baking powder, flour, salt, soda, nutmeg and cinnamon.

2. In a large bowl, mix together buttermilk, figs, melted butter and egg. Add the dry ingredients gradually to the wet ingredients and mix thoroughly.

3. Pour into a well-greased floured 9x13 pan, bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
